A design team including Gensler and TBG Partners selected Aqueous Engineering to be the aquatic consultant on a very unique project in downtown San Antonio. The Hilton Canopy hotel project is located along the world famous River Walk at the northwest corner of North St. Mary’s and Commerce Streets. The hotel will integrate the Civil War-era Alamo Fish Market building into its 22-story design located in the heart of downtown San Antonio.
One of the upper floors of the building will feature an outdoor terrace overlooking the River Walk. It is on this terrace that Aqueous Engineering has designed a unique water feature that will help bring an element of nature to this very urban setting. The water feature located on the outdoor terrace begins at one end with a waterwall feature. The wall sends cascading water along a meandering waterway – across and over boulders, near outcroppings of native plants, and over a continuous shallow bed of river rock. The smooth rolling water eventually vanishes underneath a series of boulders at the downstream end of the feature, and simulates the effect of a rolling, Central Texas river. The water feature has been created as a truly one-of-a-kind experience for this one-of-a-kind hotel.
